Emilios Eliades is one of Cyprus's best-known retailers of electrical appliances and home furniture, with a decades-long presence in the market and strong brand recognition. Despite this, the company had never sold a single product online. Every transaction happened in-store, and the business relied entirely on foot traffic, print advertising, and word of mouth.
As consumer behaviour shifted toward online research and purchasing — a trend accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic — the company recognised it was losing sales to competitors who already had a digital presence. Customers were searching for products online, comparing prices, and buying from whoever made it easiest. Without an e-commerce channel, Emilios Eliades was invisible during the most critical phase of the buying journey.
The challenge went beyond simply building a website. The company had over 1,000 products across dozens of categories, no existing product database suitable for e-commerce, no digital photography for the catalogue, and no internal team experienced in online retail operations. The platform needed to be bilingual (Greek and English), integrate with physical store operations for click-and-collect, and be manageable by staff with limited technical experience.
Techlink began with an in-depth discovery phase, spending time in the Emilios Eliades stores to understand their product range, pricing structure, promotional calendar, and customer demographics. We mapped the entire catalogue into a hierarchical taxonomy that would support intuitive multi-level navigation and filtering — critical when a customer needs to find a specific refrigerator model among hundreds of appliances.
We chose WordPress and WooCommerce as the platform for its balance of capability and manageability. The client's team needed to add products, update prices, run promotions, and manage orders without calling a developer for every change. We built a custom theme from scratch rather than adapting a generic template, ensuring the visual identity matched the established brand while delivering a mobile-first experience that would convert browsers into buyers.
We delivered a fully bilingual e-commerce platform that brought Emilios Eliades's entire product range online for the first time. The product catalogue is organised across multi-level categories with up to four tiers of hierarchy, and advanced filtering lets customers narrow results by brand, price range, energy rating, dimensions, and product type. Each product page features specifications, imagery, availability status, and delivery or click-and-collect options.
The promotional pricing engine supports flash sales, seasonal campaigns, percentage and fixed-amount discounts, and clearance events — all manageable through the WordPress admin without developer involvement. Integration with physical store operations provides real-time stock visibility by location and enables click-and-collect fulfilment, bridging the gap between the online and in-store experience. Transactional emails, invoices, and all customer-facing content are fully bilingual in Greek and English.
